Popularly
called as May Day, International Workers’ Day is celebrated to promote and
encourage the international labour associations. It is been celebrated on May 1st
of every year and declared as a national holiday in all countries of the world.
In US and Canada, the Labour Day falls on 1st Monday of September
month. It is a day where we take some time to remember the great achievements
of the workers working in various fields.
Why is May Day Celebrated?
The main
aim of celebrating the International Labour Day or May Day is to value the
struggle and promote the requirement of eight-hour work day. Earlier, the
working system for the labours was very hard and they usually work for 10 to 16
hours a day. Due to this, there were lot of deaths, injuries and other dreadful
conditions took place in 1860’s.
The
rising death and bad working environment forced the workers to protest against
the cause. With the support of many socialists and leaders, the Government
declared the eight-hours working module in the industries, factories and
companies. It is also estimated to know that many workers lost their lives
during the strike in Chicago.
How International Labour Day is Celebrated?
May Day
is celebrated yearly as an official holiday all over the world. People
celebrate the International Labour Day by conducting a lot of programs and
parties with their fellow friends. They usually decorate the flags and banners
using colours.
Various
inspirational messages about workers will be flashed in radio channels and TV
channels. Apart from this, there will be lot of activities on Labour Day party
celebration including cartoon characters, western culture shows, TV shows
movies, crazy fun activities, holiday activities and much more.
